The
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.
GATE is conducted through the constitution of eight zones.
Beyond admissions into institutions like IIsc, IITs, NITs, various research departments and labs like DRDO, ISRO and CSIR etc. give preferences to studens with Good GATE scores. More than 300 institutes validate GATE scores for admission to PG Programmes. GATE score is valid foe CEED programmes at IIT Kanpur & IISc Bangalore. As a matter of practice, industries have also started giving preference to good GATE scorers for employment purposes. Some government organisations prescribes GATE qualification as a requirement to apply for the post of a Scientist/Engineer.

As it is mention in the advert that scholarship will be given in the field of Engineering, Technology, Medicine and other Professional Courses. We are not sure whether they are covering Liturature under other professional Course.
